Dr. Mahmoud Basseem I. Mohamed is an Assistant Professor of Applied Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Basseem is a distinguished researcher in the field of applied organic chemistry with over 15 years of academic experience. His research focuses primarily on the development of chemosensors for chemical detection, applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in chemistry, and the study of supramolecular interactions.
His work spans multiple interdisciplinary areas including polymer-based gas sensors through Suzuki coupling reactions, nanomaterials for catalysis and wastewater treatment, photocatalysis using nanocomposites, electrochemical studies, and the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds for both material science and pharmaceutical applications.
Dr. Basseem has made significant contributions to the scientific community through his research publications and has been granted patents for his innovative work. He is particularly recognized for his groundbreaking patent work on fluorescence probe technology. Along with his collaborators Tarek S. Aysha, Mervat S. El-Sedik, Omaima M. T. Kandil, Shimaa T. A. Omara, Taha M. Elmorsi, and Ahmed H. Bedair, he developed a "Fluorescence probe based on fluorescein derivatives for monitoring pH changes and their application in bio-imaging for the detection of dangerous bacteria." This innovative work was filed as patent application number 2019050760 in 2019, accepted on August 30, 2023, and issued as patent number 865 in September 2023.
In addition to his research excellence, Dr. Basseem is committed to advancing education in chemistry. He has supervised 3 M.Sc. and 4 Ph.D. projects, contributing to the development of the next generation of chemists and researchers.
